In the month of May 2022, the indigenous automaker Tata Motors rose to the position of the world’s second-largest carmaker. While Hyundai’s total domestic sales for the month of May 2022 stood at 42,293, Tata Motors achieved sales of 43,341 automobiles during the same time period.
Tata Motors has moved into the number two spot, dethroning Hyundai for the second time in the past six months. The month of December 2021 saw low sales for Hyundai, which resulted in the company falling to third place on the list of the top 10 automakers. Tata Motors has taken the lead over Hyundai by a significant 1,048 units in May of 2022.
TATA SALES IN MAY 2022
In the passenger vehicle segment during the month of May 2022, Tata Motors achieved a staggering year-on-year sales growth of 185 percent, registering 43,341 sales of automobiles. During the same month a year ago, the company had delivered 15,181 PVs to customers. During the month of May 2022, the company sold 39,887 ICE passenger vehicles, which is an increase from the 14,705 units sold during the same month in 2021. The total number of electric vehicles sold by the company reached 3,454 units, representing a significant increase of 626 percent.
HYUNDAI SALES IN MAY 2022
In the domestic market during the month of May 2022, Hyundai Motor Company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 69.17%, with 42,293 automobiles and sport utility vehicles being sold. When compared to the number of units exported in May 2021 (5,702), the number of units exported by the company in May 2022 (8,970) increased by 57.31 percent.
The total number of units sold by the company in May 2022 was 51,263 (including domestic and international sales), representing a year-over-year increase in sales volume of 66.96 percent.
