How to fix a slow-running Windows laptop in 7 easy steps

Most laptops and PCs get slower as time goes on. No matter why, working on a slow PC is not only inefficient, but it can also be frustrating. But there are a few things you can do to make your Windows-based laptop or PC run faster. Even though these quick fixes won’t make your PC as fast as lightning, they will make it faster and last longer.

Install the latest drivers by running Windows Update.

Make sure the latest version of the operating system is installed. Updates to the operating system can make it more stable, fix bugs, and do other things. If a bug is causing the slow performance, updating to the most recent version can also fix the problem. Same thing goes for the drivers. Check to see if there are any updates for the drivers, and install them if there are.

Get rid of apps and services you don’t want.

Sometimes an app or piece of software that is installed on a system has malware or uses a lot of system resources. Getting rid of them can help the performance. Also, you should get rid of apps and software that you don’t use anymore.

Turn off programs that run at startup to speed up the process.

If your laptop takes a long time to start up, use the Task Manager to turn off some of the services. If you do this, less apps and services will load when the system starts up.

Get rid of any other antivirus software

Because antivirus software scans in the background, it can sometimes also slow down the system. If you want your system to run faster, try turning them off or getting rid of them. If things go back to normal, you might want to leave them disabled or uninstalled. Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with Microsoft Defender, which is a built-in security system for the operating system.

Delete Junk files

It’s important to get rid of junk and temporary files because they can slow down the system. Also, make sure that your “c:” drive has enough space for files.

Reinstall Windows

If nothing works, you might be able to fix things by reinstalling Windows on your laptop or desktop computer. This will help your system run better: Clean up old files and apps you don’t use anymore, and get rid of any viruses, malware, or adware that may have gotten into your system. To reinstall Windows 10, it’s easiest to: Click “Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery,” and then click “Get started” under “Reset this PC.” A full reinstall will delete everything on your hard drive, so choose “Remove everything.”

Don’t buy a new PC; instead, upgrade the hardware.

Now, here are some easy things you can try to make your Windows laptop run better. If none of these things work, you might want to upgrade your hard drive instead of buying a new one. For example, if your computer has a traditional hard drive, you should replace it with an SSD. You can also think about upgrading the RAM on your computer to make it run faster. If nothing works, it’s time to get a new system.
