The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has recently launched the new mAadhaar app, aiming to reach out to a vast number of smartphone users. This official app comes with a host of Aadhaar services, allowing users to carry their Aadhaar information in a digital format, eliminating the need to carry a physical copy at all times.
- mAadhaar app released by UIDAI for smartphone users.
- Multilingual support in 12 Indian languages.
- Features like Aadhaar locking, TOTP generation, and more.
Multilingual Support for Accessibility
One of the key features of the mAadhaar app is its multilingual support. To ensure that the Aadhaar services are accessible to residents from linguistically diverse backgrounds across India, the app is available in 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. During installation, users can choose their preferred language. However, the input fields in the forms only accept data entered in English to avoid challenges posed by regional language typing limitations on mobile keyboards.
Universality: Aadhaar Services for All
The mAadhaar app is not limited to Aadhaar holders only; even those without an Aadhaar can install it on their smartphones. However, personalized Aadhaar services are accessible to registered Aadhaar holders. Users can also avail featured services for other residents who may require Aadhaar-related assistance.
Functionalities of mAadhaar
The app offers a wide range of functionalities, conveniently grouped into several sections:

- Aadhaar Locking: Users can lock their UID/Aadhaar number whenever they wish for enhanced security.

- Update of Profile: Allows users to view their Aadhaar profile data after successfully completing an update request.
- Sharing of QR Code and eKYC Data: Aadhaar holders can share their password-protected eKYC or QR code for safe and paperless verification.
