JioCinema will be able to stream programming from HBO, Max Original, and Warner Bros. starting on May 1st in India, according to a multi-year arrangement that Warner Bros Discovery and Viacom18 announced.
Additionally, it was reported that the HBO Original, Max Original, and Warner Bros. TV shows will debut on JioCinema in India on the same day they do in the United States. This is significant because several HBO shows typically air months after their US counterparts.
This deal with HBO expired on March 31, 2023, and Hotstar had to stop broadcasting such shows in India starting in April. As a result, popular series like House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession, and The White Lotus were no longer available on the streaming service. JioCinema will now host these.
After Viacom18 paid Rs. 23,758 crore for the digital streaming rights from 2023 to 2027, Hotstar also lost the IPL streaming rights to JioCinema.
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled Max, a streaming service. It will debut on May 23 in the United States.
According to rumours, JioCinema may become JioVoot, and its JioCinema Premium plans, which start at Rs. 2 per day, have appeared online.
