Canon announced the EOS R8, a new entry-level full-frame camera that combines many of the powerful video and still shooting features of the EOS R6 Mark II, such as Canon Log 3 and up to 40 frames per second continuous shooting, with the portability of the EOS RP; and the EOS R50, a new compact, lightweight APS-C mirrorless camera that will replace the EOS M50 Mark II. The entry-level camera includes a plethora of fun, creative tools and automated features that enable users to easily create high-quality vlogs and images with minimal camera operation.
EOS R8

Stay Agile with Canon’s Smallest and Lightest EOS Full-frame Mirrorless Camera
With a weight of 461g (with battery pack and SD card), the EOS R8 is agile and allows for creative camera angles and transitions.
The EOS R8 has Movie Digital IS, which digitally corrects tilt and stabilizes 5-axis video. Even without optical image stabilization, handheld videos can be stable (Optical IS). The two systems work together to improve image stabilization with Optical IS lenses.
Recording Options for Various Production Needs
The EOS R8 can produce stunning video for run-and-gun event coverage, documentaries, and short films that require more post-production.
Quality Source 6K Oversampling—4K 60p footage
Source footage determines video quality. The EOS R8’s new 24.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor captures 6K data across its width to produce high-quality cropless oversampled 4K UHD footage at up to 60p.
Heat suppression allows the EOS R8 to shoot up to 4K 30p with no recording time limit and up to 30 minutes at 4K 60p.
Dramatic Full HD 180p 6x Slow Motion Video
Full HD at 180p will produce 30p output with action slowed to 1/6 the speed for dramatic scenes.
HDR PQ Video and Canon Log 3 for Post-Production Workflow
The EOS R8 records 10-bit 4:2:2 high dynamic range video in addition to 8-bit. On an HDR display, HDR PQ has stunning dynamic range and colors right out of the camera. Canon Log 3 provides the same information without being “baked-in,” making it more flexible for color-grading workflows.
Consistent and Seamless Focus Focus is crucial in photography and videography and nearly impossible to correct post-production. With Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology like the EOS R6 Mark II, the EOS R8 shoots stills and videos flawlessly.
Focus in 0.03 seconds[1].
The EOS iTR AF X system detects and tracks people, animals, and vehicles by deep learning and “locks” onto other subjects using shape, color, and brightness. The camera can focus in 0.03 seconds and track subjects across 100% of the image frame. This is ideal for capturing birds, wildlife, and action.
Despite Low Light
EV-6.5[2] for stills and EV-42 for video mean the AF works in dark conditions. The camera’s high native ISO speeds of up to ISO 102,400 (still shooting) and ISO 25,600 (video shooting) improve low-light usability.
Professional Cinema Camera Features
These EOS R8 features improve video:
Focus breathing correction reduces angle of view variations during focusing.
Zebras and false colors: advanced exposure aids.
Aspect marker display: simplifies video framing for social media.
UVC/UAC: Livestreaming with USB-connected audio and Full HD video.
The Multi-function Shoe allows cordless digital setup with compatible accessories like external microphones.
Two New Lenses: RF24-50mm and RF-S55-210mm.
Canon announced two new RF lenses with up to 4.5 stops of equivalent Optical IS and focus breathing correction alongside the EOS R8.
RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM: The Smallest, Lightest Full-frame RF-mount Zoom Lens
The compact EOS R8 and RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM weigh 671g, lighter than the EOS R5 body alone. Its compositional flexibility on a full-frame camera from wide-angle to standard sets it apart from similar-sized prime lenses.
The lens’ 4.5-stop Optical IS lets users try new angles. With Movie Digital IS[3] and In-Body IS, it supports Coordinated Control IS for up to 7 stops of IS.
RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM: Ultra-Portable Telephoto Zoom Lens for APS-C EOS R Cameras
The 270g RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM is a compact, lightweight telephoto lens for APS-C EOS R cameras. At the tele end, the new lens offers semi-macro (up to 0.28x magnification) and close-up shooting (closest focusing distance of 0.73m). Two UD lenses and two optically placed aspherical lenses correct chromatic aberrations for high-resolution, sharpness, and color throughout the zoom range.

EOS R50

Out-of-Box Video Quality
Footage determines video quality. EOS R50 ensures high-quality footage.
24.2MP APS-C Sensor
APS-C image sensors are three times larger than smartphone 1-inch sensors. Even in low light, images and videos are sharper and less grainy. Beautiful, natural-looking bokeh effects are also available.
High-quality Video: First Entry EOS-series APS-C Mirrorless Camera Produces 6K-Oversampled Uncrop 4K UHD
The EOS R50 can record high-quality Uncrop 4K 30p video oversampled from 6K data with 24.2 megapixels. Oversampling reduces artifacts and other issues, so your image quality will be professional regardless of your vlogging experience.
Easy Vlogging
Vloggers who want dedicated camera image quality without the learning curve will love the EOS R50’s many modes and features.
Like the EOS M50 Mark II, it weighs 375g[4]. For mobile vlogging!
Close-up Demos: Intelligent Focus Switching
The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, which detects and tracks people, animals (dogs, cats, and birds), and vehicles (motorsports cars and motorcycles) based on their characteristics, got smarter. The Movie for Close-up Demo mode quickly and automatically focuses on the closest subject for close-up demos. Show off your new gadget or online shopping haul in one smooth take.
Focus breathing prevents distracting angle changes during vlogging focus transitions.
Vlogging Image Stabilization
Get smooth handheld footage: When used with an RF lens with in-lens IS, the EOS R50’s two Movie IS (Image Stabilizer) levels—”Enhanced” and “On”—digitally correct 5-axis camera shake.
The default “Movie IS: Enhanced” mode optimises image stabilisation for handheld wide-angle shooting when the monitor is in “selfie” mode. Wide-angle images tend to show unwanted motion at the edges. To avoid close-ups, tap “Wide-angle” to switch levels.
Auto Leveling
Auto level mode corrects horizontal tilt in difficult shooting situations. This would reduce manual app correction time.
Share Content Fast: One USB Cable, High-Quality Livestreams
One USB-C connection to your computer lets your EOS R50 livestream high-quality footage[7] and audio. Driverless plug-and-play.
Camera-to-phone
The easy-to-setup Camera Connect smartphone app lets you transfer videos and JPEG photos from your camera to a smartphone via Wi-Fi or USB-C. The camera supports transcoding, which makes 4K and Full HD video files lighter, so even high-quality video files can be transferred and uploaded to social media smoothly!
Easy Photos
Even if you don’t know technical photography terms or complicated post-processing, new intelligent creative features make it easier to use the camera’s imaging capabilities. New features include:
Advanced A+: Automatically captures and blends exposure-bracketed images for better night and backlit portraits and focus-bracketed images for front-to-back focus.
Creative Bracket: Automatically creates multiple versions of a user-taken photo with different brightness and color settings. Users can study autogenerated shot settings.
