Google today announced the addition of Purchase Requests on Google Play as a new family payment option. Google Play recently added UPI Autopay for subscriptions in India.
Google Play Purchase Requests for families
If you haven’t set up a family payment method, your children will be able to send a purchase request directly to the family manager. Then, on your own device, you can review the request and important information about the app or in-app purchase and decide whether or not to make the purchase.

- If you decide to proceed with the purchase, you can use your previously saved payment methods, such as Google Play gift cards.
- Family managers will be notified of these purchases right away, but you can also place them in a queue of approval requests and decide later.
According to the company, your Order History will have a record of all Purchase Request transactions, just like the family payment method.
In case you didn’t know, you can already set up a family payment method on Google Play, which allows family managers to share a single payment method with their family members across multiple Android devices.
You have the ability to accept or reject any purchases made by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent age in your country) if you choose to share your family payment method with them. You can also view all transactions in your Google Play order history if a family member uses the family payment option.
Madhur Chadha, Product Manager, Google Play Commerce, announced the new feature:
Many families come to Google Play to find apps and games for everyone in the household to enjoy. Now we’re adding a new easier way for families to safely purchase both paid apps and in-app purchases.
