Instagram latest update lets you buy things from chats. This works for “qualified small businesses” that confirm orders, create payment requests, and collect payment in chat. Your questions, the company’s answers, other communications, orders, shipping, and tracking info all stay in one place.
According to Meta, Instagram’s parent company, says 1 billion people message businesses weekly. Instagram wanted to make interacting with businesses as easy as possible, so they created the new feature.
The official press release describes a hypothetical scenario in which you’re interested in a backpack, contact the business making it via Instagram DM, and place your order in the chat. You can ask follow-up questions and track your order in the same chat. Meta Pay lets you shop.
Small businesses can use this new feature to chat with customers in real time to answer questions and confirm purchase details, create a payment request with item description and price, and collect payment – all in DMs.
