Amazon promised last month that by the end of the year, it would provide an excellent Matter customer experience. Amazon announced today that the first stage of its Matter rollout is now available to the public.
Amazon brings Matter support to 17 Echo devices
Amazon claims that the availability of Matter over Wi-Fi for 17 different Echo devices*, plugs, switches, and light bulbs with an Android setup has given tens of millions of Alexa users worldwide more connectivity options.
Its staged approach lets us start rolling out Matter support for the most common device types while continuing to test interoperability, stability, and longevity with our partners to make sure users have a smooth and high-quality Alexa experience.
Customers value quality, but they also value having a choice. Amazon announced that there are now over 30,000 “Works with Alexa” devices from which people can build their own smart home.
They will now have even more products to choose from as they build the smart home that is right for them, thanks to Matter. According to Amazon, Matter devices will work well with other smart home devices, providing customers with a consistent and familiar smart home experience with Alexa.

Amazon provides tools to develop the greatest Matter devices. To make things easier, Matter SDK includes a simple setup. Begin using the Commissionable Endpoint API right away, as well as the Alexa Ambient Home Dev Kit credentials and Matter multi-admin quick setup, which will be available next year.
The ACK SDK for Matter makes it easier for developers who want a managed solution to connect Matter devices to the cloud while giving them managed cloud insights and capabilities.
Amazon encouraged customers to keep an eye on the developer portal for CES announcements and to join us at the Venetian Amazon Experience Area to explore Alexa-powered smart homes.
