Netflix acquires Animal Logic, a leading independent Animation Studio

In addition to reporting that it lost 970,000 subscribers in its Q2 2022 letter to shareholders, Netflix also disclosed that it has acquired Animal Logic, the Australian animation company behind “Happy Feet,” “The Lego Movie,” “Peter Rabbit,” and other animated films. Later this year, the purchase is anticipated to finalize.

The Magician’s Elephant, a 2023 release, and “The Shrinking of Treehorn,” Ron Howard’s first animated film, are already the products of a partnership between the two businesses.

Animal Logic, the world’s leading independent animation studio, has been acquired by Netflix

With a full slate of movies spanning Animal Logic’s Sydney and Vancouver studios, including Wendy Rogers’ The Magician’s Elephant and the recently announced Ron Howard-directed The Shrinking of the Treehorns for Netflix, the announcement strengthens the two firms’ existing strong cooperation.

The expansion of Netflix’s end-to-end animation production capabilities will be accelerated by its collaboration with Animal Logic. A global creative production team and an animation studio that will produce some of Netflix’s biggest animated feature titles will be formed by the teams from Animal Logic and Netflix Animation. In order to meet its needs for animated films and television shows, Netflix will continue to collaborate with numerous animation studios worldwide.

Additionally, according to Netflix, CEO and co-founder Zareh Nalbandian, the Animal Logic teams, and leadership will continue to work together and with long-standing studio partners while continuing to operate under the Animal Logic brand and fulfill production obligations that have already been made.

This improves Netflix’s ability to compete with Disney+ and its selection of animated family movies. The company’s effort to advance the development of its “end-to-end animation production skills” is the expansion of the Netflix animation team.
