Today, India’s biggest car company showed off its first hybrid SUV for the Indian market (July 20). Today, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara made its world debut. It is expected to go on sale around the holiday season of 2022. The new SUV is based on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV, which was used because the two brands have a global partnership. Toyota has already started selling the Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based Glanza and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza-based Urban Cruiser in India. This is the first time that Maruti Suzuki will sell a Toyota-based vehicle in India.

As Maruti said before, the Grand Vitara will be sold through NEXA dealerships, and people can put down a Rs 11,000 deposit to reserve one. Maruti Suzuki has also given hints about the SUV through short videos. The Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Jeep Compass, and other cars will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara on the Indian market. Leaked information before the launch shows that the base price of the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be around Rs 9.50 lakh, and the most expensive version of the SUV will cost around Rs 16 lakh, which is a lot less than the competition.
Engine
The 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain will help the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara get the best fuel economy in its class, which is 27.97 km/l. The 1.5-liter dualjet gasoline engine, on the other hand, will get 21.11 kmpl, which is what the brand says.
Design
Even though the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has a lot in common with the new Toyota Urban Cruiser hybrid SUV, it also has a few features that make it stand out. The front of the new SUV will be redesigned, and the headlights will be split vertically, just like the difference between the front and back. Maruti Suzuki is also looking for new customers with the midsize SUV.
Other Features
Like the other Maruti Suzuki cars that have just come out, the Grand Vitara will have a lot of features and a comfortable interior. Features like a heads-up display, a big panoramic sunroof (a first in the segment), a 360-degree parking camera, a 9-inch touchscreen for infotainment, six airbags, and many more back up the claim.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is the first SUV from the Indian company to have a hybrid powertrain. This is just one of its many firsts. The car is likely to have a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine. Together with an electric motor, it should be tuned to make 115 PS of power. Also, the lower trims are likely to have a 1.5-liter NA engine that will be tuned differently. The SUV will also have all-wheel drive, which will make it better than some of its competitors.
Rivals
On the Indian market, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will likely compete with cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Jeep Compass, and others.
