
Last month, Nothing launched its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1). It comes pre-installed with Nothing OS, an almost stock version of Android that is based on Android 12. You are in for some disappointment if you were under the impression that this meant the stable Android 13 would be available for the phone this year. Recently, Nothing Phone’s price was hiked in India as well.
The company claims that the phone will only receive the Android 13 upgrade in the first half of 2023, which would be any date within January and June. To enhance the user experience, the company will nonetheless keep releasing software upgrades for the phone (1).
Regarding the Android 13 update, the firm says that,
“We are always working hard to improve the Phone 1 user experience. To ensure this, operating system updates will be made available for regular download. In regards to Android 13, this will be launching for Phone 1 users in the first half of 2023. Before releasing, we want to fine tune the software upgrade with Nothing’s hardware. We will be sure to keep you updated with further information,”
Recall that the Nothing Phone (1) offers a four-year commitment to bimonthly security updates and a three-year guarantee on Android version updates. It is packed with a 6.55″ FullHD+ 120Hz OLED and a fingerprint reader. It is driven by the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC. The phone (1) has a triple camera in tow—a 16MP selfie camera on the front, a 50MP primary camera on the back, joined by a 50MP ultrawide sensor. For the battery, it has a 4,500 mAh capacity with 33W wired as well as 15W wireless charging capabilities.
