Last year, Nothing launched the Phone (1), the company’s first smartphone. The success of the Phone (1) has piqued tech enthusiasts’ interest in its successor. Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, has confirmed that Phone (2) will be released later this year.
Carl confirmed the news in an interview with the US-based publication Inverse. He also confirmed the availability of Phone (2) in the US market, which he considers to be “the No. 1 priority in terms of markets.”
Carl Pei also stated that the company’s revenue would more than tenfold increase between 2021 and 2022. Furthermore, in 2021, the internal team of nothing increased from 200 to 400 people.
We did almost 10x the revenue last year [in 2022 globally] compared to [2021]. We did more than $200 million USD last year; the first year we did something like $24 million USD. We’re growing quite quickly. We shipped over a million products already.
The revenue growth clearly demonstrates the demand for Nothing’s products. Carl claims that the brand will be able to leverage component suppliers and manufacturing facilities that previously rejected them.
Carl claims that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) will be “more premium” than its predecessor, and that the team’s primary focus will be on software. To that end, the company now has nearly 100 people working in the software team, ensuring that both current and new phones have the best experience possible.
Right now, there isn’t much information available about the phone (2). Nothing is expected to keep the same transparent design language as Phone (1) while improving Glyph interface usability.
