Truecaller announced the launch of its audio-based chat app, Open Doors, on July 13th. According to the company, the app will be completely free and will be available worldwide on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Open Doors has a simple and direct onboarding process. If you already have a Truecaller account, you can sign in with a single tap. If you are not a Truecaller user, your phone number will be validated through a missed call or an OTP. The app only requires two permissions: contacts (so you can share Open Doors with your contacts or connect with people in your contacts who also have Open Doors) and phone permission (needed to have audio conversations). Conversation participants cannot see each other’s phone numbers.
As an Open Doors user, you have complete control at all times. You can start a conversation and leave whenever you want. When your friends receive a notification or click on a link you share, they can join conversations. The app interface will be available in English, Hindi, Spanish, Latin, and French at launch, with additional languages to be added later based on user demand.
When your friend joins the conversation, their friends are invited as well. You can quickly be joined by a large number of people thanks to the network effect. Remember that, like Truecaller, conversations are real-time and moderated by the community. They are not saved anywhere, and no one can listen in without your knowledge. During conversations, we expect participants to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment, says Truecaller.
Truecaller plans to expand Open Doors’ features in response to user feedback. Truecaller is said to have more than 300 million active users, which it wants to tap into in order to increase the number of Open Doors users.
