OPPO was one of a select few smartphone manufacturers to keep providing chargers in the package even after a trend that began with Apple quickly swept throughout the whole industry. It now looks like the company will at least partially follow the rest of the industry and stop including a charger with its smartphones.
According to reports, Zhang declined to say which devices will no longer receive the charger in the box. Other statements he made, however, seem to suggest that OPPO is taking a strategic approach to its choice, with some places getting it and others not. According to the statement, when deciding where to implement its plan, OPPO may consider the market’s supply of SuperVOOC compatible chargers.
Given the potential for future portless smartphones, it’s likely that the company is considering removing chargers from all of its products. Or it could be trying to find a new way to make money by selling chargers on their own.
During the European launch event for the Oppo Reno8 series, Billy Zhang, VP of Overseas Sales and Services at OPPO, said,
We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan,” Zhang said during the interview. It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to our charger, so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.
