Qualcomm Snapdragon tweeted a new teaser, showing the next generation of wearable SoCs “coming soon.”
The latest Snapdragon Wear SoC 4100+ is built on a 12 nm process and includes a new co-processor that can handle additional background tasks such as sensor input and sound. When compared to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 Platform, this SoC has improved performance and battery life.
We’re eager to see what improvements the next Snapdragon Wear platform will offer. Although it’s difficult to forecast Qualcomm’s next move with wearables, we anticipate something more like Samsung’s Exynos W920 (5nm) SoC. Given Google’s renewed focus on Wear OS, this could be what propels the platform ahead since many Wear OS devices older than version 3.0 run on Snapdragon Wear platforms.
All we know is that Qualcomm will release a new wearable chip. We won’t know which OEMs will use it, when it will be available, or its specifications until Qualcomm makes an official announcement sometime soon.
