Samsung’s Bixby updates Text Call, AI improvements and more new features

Bixby

Samsung has finally updated Bixby, its AI voice assistant, which has been in need of an update. Today, Samsung released new Bixby updates that enhance the platform and intelligent assistant’s usability, functionality, and performance. A few offline commands, Bixby Text Call, and other features have been enhanced.

Bixby Text Call in English

Samsung now offers Bixby Text Call in the English language. In October 2022, the functionality made its debut with One UI 5, but it was only accessible in Korea. English speakers can now answer calls from anywhere by composing a message that Bixby will translate to audio and then speak with the caller on their behalf.

Using the brand-new Bixby Custom Voice Maker, users may also alter the sound and tone of their Bixby Text Calls by recording various words for Bixby to analyse and synthesise.

The Galaxy S23 series in Korea is one of the few models currently supported by this feature, which only runs on One UI 5.1 smartphones. The business has also declared its intention to add this capability to further Samsung apps.

Additional New Bixby Features

A custom wake-up phrase is now supported by Bixby thanks to a Samsung upgrade. By understanding context and connecting words from prior conversations, Bixby has also learned to comprehend purpose and handle follow-up requests.

Users of Samsung Health’s Bixby, for instance, can begin a workout and then ask Bixby to play music appropriate for it by asking, “Play music for this activity.”

Samsung has also enhanced the in-app AI capabilities of Bixby. The flashlight may be turned on, a timer can be set, and screenshots can be taken entirely offline.

In order to enable superior AI-based voice dictation, Samsung has coupled on-device AI with native applications, enabling the business to expand its language options and capabilities.

Availability

Samsung Galaxy owners will be able to download the latest Bixby enhancements in February via a software update.

YoungJip Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Team in the Mobile Experience Business, stated the following regarding the update:

When Samsung first launched Bixby as a voice assistant, it was part of a vision to create a human-to-machine interface that makes life easier and can advance over time with Samsung Galaxy innovation. Today, we introduce updates to build a more intelligent interface that is proactive and adaptive, giving people greater control over their mobile experience.
