Upcoming iPhone SE may have the biggest design change

The next iPhone SE is said to have the same design as the iPhone XR. MacRumors got the report from well-known analyst Ross Young at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSSC). Young used to think that the fourth-generation iPhone SE would have a hole-punch cutout on the front like Android and a screen size between 5.7 and 6.1 inches.

Young now thinks Apple will keep the 6.1-inch size and add the notch to an iPhone SE model for the first time. The phone is likely to be based on the iPhone XR, and Apple will keep the iPhone SE’s back camera as a stand-alone feature for the fourth year in a row. There are also rumors that neither OLED nor ProMotion will be present. And now that the notch is here, we can be sure that Face ID will replace Touch ID on the next iPhone SE. The iPhone XR’s body doesn’t have enough room for the traditional Touch ID sensor, and recent reports from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg say that Apple doesn’t want to put Touch ID in the power button like it does on iPads.

Most of the time, the iPhone SE line has been stuck in the past, giving iPhone fans the chance to keep their favorite designs for longer than their sell-by dates. The first SE brought back the look of the iPhone 5, and the 2020 and 2022 SEs did the same for the iPhone 8. Even though the iPhone XR still has a modern look, its rounded edges and larger notch will probably keep you from mistaking it for a “real” new iPhone.

If the next SE looks like the XR, the iPhone SE will no longer be the smallest and cheapest iPhone you can buy. All of the older SEs were small, but that was mostly because they were based on smaller devices. As Apple moves the SE series to the iPhone XR and the main iPhones to the Plus line, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a real small iPhone for a while.
